What do you mean by multiple entry Vietnam visa?

You often wonder about which visa to choose when coming to Vietnam. This is an important factor because you will not be able to complete your travel or your job when choosing the wrong type.

Which type of visa to get

A multiple-entry Vietnam visa

A multiple-entry Vietnam visa allows visitors to come and go from Vietnam as many times as they want during the period of visa validity without having to reapply each time.

Both business and tourist visas can be issued for multiple-entry. If the visitors travel from destination to destination inside Vietnam, the single-entry visa is good. The multiple-entry is necessary in case the visitors exit Vietnam and re-enter via land borders or airports.

For example, if you apply for a 1-month multiple entry visa, you are allowed to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times within 90 days since you registered arrival date.

6 month and one-year multiple business visa

For these two types of visa, it only applies to American residents. See more at Vietnam visa for citizens of United States

Important note:

  • Long-term multiple entry visa Vietnam cannot be collected on arrival.
  • 6-month multiple visas often allow a stay of 5 months and 20 days, and 1-year multiple visas help visitors to stay in Vietnam for 11 months and 20 days.

Note: For a multiple entry visa on arrival, you only need to have the first arrival in Vietnam by air to get visa stamped onto passport at the airport in Vietnam, and your latter arrivals can be by land or sea without following any visa procedure since your visa stamp is already on your passport.

A single-entry Vietnam visa

If you hold a single entry visa, you are allowed to enter and exit Vietnam one time only during the visa validity. Once you have left Vietnam, even before the granted expiry date, your visa will automatically become invalid and if you want to come back to Vietnam, you need to apply for a new visa. This kind of visa is also called “a visa with single use”.

For example, if you apply for a 1-month single entry visa to Vietnam, you are allowed to enter and exit Vietnam ONCE only during 30 days since your pre-registered arrival date.
