Which country do Americans have to apply for a visa when they travel?
Whether or not a US citizen is required to present a visa when coming to a country depends on international relations between the country and the US government. Most countries require US citizens to have a visa before coming to work in their home country. US citizens who come to Vietnam whether for purpose of tourism, trade, visit relates, seminars and conferences are granted visas easily and cost less than some other countries. Besides applying for a visa at the embassy, the Government of Vietnam grants permission for US residents to apply for visas via Evisa and Visa on arrival. In particular, the US is the only nationality licensed to apply for a 6-months-multiples visa (valid in 170 days) and 1-year-multiples visa.

With the traditional way, US residents can apply for visa visas at the Vietnamese Diplomatic Mission at the Embassy / Consulate Vietnam. At Vietnam's diplomatic mission, foreigners present passports, official letters allowing entry into Vietnam, fill in the application form for visa and fee payment in accordance with the regulations of the Government of Vietnam. Visa Vietnam will be issued by the Immigration Department of Vietnam, then faxed to Vietnamese diplomatic missions in foreign countries.

Americans get Vietnam e visa at the international border gates
The Vietnam Immigration has launched an e-Visa portal to facilitate the process of issuing visas to genuine tourists.
Travelers who can obtain short-term tourist visas without visiting the representative office or consulate of Vietnam, follow two simple steps: filing information and paying online. The electronic visa application does not require more information than traditional paper applications and it grants the same authority to enter Vietnam as the usual visa in the passport.
E-visa price is equal in 80 countries in Vietnam Evisa: $ 19 for tourist visas and $ 29 for business visas.
E-Visa portal must be used for short-stay visits only (less than 30 days). With Electronic Visa service, expats can apply for visa visas at international border gates of Vietnam: 8 international airports, 9 international ports and 16 land border gates.
Information provided by you will be checked at Vietnam's border crossing points. If you provide inaccurate information, your e-Visa will be invalid and you will be denied entry to Vietnam.
Do US citizens need Visa for Vietnam on Arrival?
Visa on arrival (loose-leaf visa) is an alternative form to grant permission for foreigners to enter Vietnam, visitors present this document at the border to be able to enter the airport and stamp the visa.
Approval Letter is a letter issued by the Immigration Department of Vietnam allowing you to enter and exit Vietnam within a certain period of time. At the airport, the relevant authority will verify the details on the approval letter based on your passport and travel documents. As long as you are sure to enter the correct details when you register, you will be granted entry permits upon arrival in Vietnam with your approval letter.
International airports that foreigners can get on arrival visas include Tan Son Nhat airport (Ho Chi Minh City), Noi Bai airport (Ha Noi city), Da Nang airport (Da Nang city), Cam Ranh airport (Khanh Hoa city).
In the international airport, foreigners present passports, official letters permitting entry into Vietnam, fill in the visa application form (Form N1) and pay the visa stamping fee as prescribed.
Stamping fee: 25$/person for 1 month and 3 months single entry, 50$ for 1 month multiple entries and (less) 3 months multiple entries, 95$/person for less than 6 months multiple entries and 135$/person for other types of Visa.
