Where can US citizens travel without a Vietnam visa?

Phu Quoc is the only place where US residents can travel without a Vietnam visa. Accordingly, decision 80 stipulates: Foreigners and Vietnamese who bring foreign passports to enter, exit or reside in Phu Quoc island are exempted from visa with a temporary stay of not more than 30 days. In case foreigners enter an international border gate of Vietnam (including air and sea), stay in a transit area at that border gate, then transfer to Phu Quoc island also exempted from visa according to regulations. The decision will be effective from March 10, 2014.

In case after coming to Phu Quoc island, visitors want to go to other localities, the entry and exit management agency shall consider issuing visas at Phu Quoc island; In case of wanting to stay in Phu Quoc island with a temporary stay of more than 30 days, the immigration authorities shall consider the temporary residence extension.

To get an urgent visa in 4-8 working hours, you have to pay $15 extra fee or getting an emergency visa in 1-4 working hours, you have to pay $45 extra fee.

Useful notes:

- Before applying online for a Vietnam Visa on arrival, US passport to Vietnam ensures that the passport has at least 6-month-validity and left pages from travel date.

- Visa on arrival is only applicable for US passport going to Vietnam by air.

After obtaining a visa, you can travel to the mainland provinces of Vietnam and to Phu Quoc Island or vice versa.
