Formality of five-year Vietnam visa exemption

It is informed by the Vietnamese government that overseas Vietnamese in the US, as well as all overseas Vietnamese in more than 90 countries around the world who meet some conditions, are accepted to be for five-year Vietnam visa exemption.

What is a five-year Vietnam visa?

Under the United pilot, overseas Vietnamese must fulfill some formalities to be granted for a visa exemption certificate which is valid for many times of traveling and takes effect within five years, not only in one short period of time alike in the past.
The maximal residency time in Vietnam is 180 days each time. If they want to stay longer, they must apply for visa extension with legitimate agents.
They have defined three subjects of overseas Vietnamese who will enjoy Vietnam visa exemption:
- The people who have Vietnamese nationality.
- Vietnamese people who hold foreign nationalities.
- Foreigners who are wives, husbands, children of Vietnamese or Vietnamese who hold foreign nationalities.
A certificate must be obtained by the passport holders for the exemption to be utilized legally.

In order to be granted for five-year visa exemption certificate at Vietnamese representative authority abroad, overseas Vietnamese need to submit one of three following documents:

- At least five-year valid passport (In case of your passport validity is less than 5 years, the duration licensed will be calculated according to the remaining time of the passport).

- Marriage certificate or marriage memo (If they are written in a foreign language, they must be consular legalized and translated into Vietnamese).

- The original identification card or passport of your spouse who is a Vietnamese citizen.

- Form NA9, Application for 5-year visa exemption for foreigners.

Where to hand your documents?

- If foreigners are in Vietnam: Please hand them at the Vietnamese Immigration Department.
