What is a visa exemption?
“Visa exemption” means a country that allows citizens of another country to enter and stay for a certain period of time without the need for formalities or payment of fees related to immigration.
Visa exemption includes visa exemption, entry, and exit. Visa exemption period is calculated from the date of entry.
Currently, Vietnam has signed an agreement, a visa exemption agreement with 77 countries, of which 74 agreements and agreements have determined the effective date; The following three countries have not yet determined the effective date: Costa Rica, Bolivia, Estonia.

A. NO VISA REQUIRED TO ENTER VIETNAM
If you are citizens of the following countries, you can visit Vietnam and stay there for a certain period of time without a visa:
1. 60 days: APEC Business Travel Card holders;
2. 30 days: those traveling directly to Phu Quoc Island from a foreign territory;
3. 30 days: Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia;
4. 21 days: Philippines;
5. 15-days: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Russia;
6. 15-days by June 30, 2017: UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain;
7. 15-days by June 30, 2020: Belarus.

B. VISA REQUIRED TO ENTER VIETNAM
If you are not citizens of visa exemption countries or if you are but wish to stay in Vietnam longer, then you need to apply for the visa before entering Vietnam.
- Visiting the closest Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in your country to apply for the visa if you need a visa stamped onto your passport before arriving in Vietnam. It will be required filling forms, ID photo, and the visa fee. They also keep your passport for a few days to check your information and stamp it.

Once issued, this visa is exactly the same as a visa issued by any Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate, with the same limitations and conditions attached to its use.
Note for foreigners exempt from Vietnam entry visa:
Foreigners who enter the country on a unilateral visa exemption must have at least 6 months of validity and at least 30 days before the last exit of Vietnam.
