Although Vietnam does not have a visa exemption policy for US citizens, there have been improvements that make it more convenient and more economical for Vietnamese citizens to come to Vietnam many times in a short time.
From 19th of December 2016, 1 year multiple entry visa will no longer be the only choice for VOA applicants but optional one along with 1 month single/multiple entry, 3 months single/multiple entry and 6 months multiple entry visa. The stamping fees accordingly get back to $25 for single visas and $50 for multiple visas, $95 for 6 month multiple entry visa. The stamping fee for 1 year multiple visa stays the same at $135. These stamping fees are available to all nationals.
